Newstead Brass will perform at Kirkby-in-Ashfield’s Saint Wilfrid’s Church at 7.00 pm on Sunday 8th October as an extension to the church’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ fund-raising for Macmillan Cancer Support.  The event follows success at the Bolsover Festival of Brass and the band will be reprising their entertaining programme as part of the concert.

Newstead Brass confirmed their position as Nottinghamshire’s highest ranked band with 7th place in the Championship section of the competition which attracted 20 Entries from across England.  This made Newstead the highest placed band from the midlands area. It was the band’s first contest under new musical director Matthew Ludford-King.     Adjudicator Mark Wilkinson summed up the bands performance as ‘Lots to admire, a balanced programme featuring a stylish soloist [Elspeth Malcolm on Flugel] with visuals to aid the show. The playing was good’.

Sunday’s concert will see the band reprise their programme from the Bolsover Festival along with some newly written works and favourites from their summer bandstand programme.

Admission is by donation on the door or in advance from

A band spokesperson commented “We were approached to see if the band would support the church’s participation in the Macmillan ‘World’s largest Coffee Morning’ and were delighted to be able to offer to give a concert in the church where proceeds will be added to their other fund- raising.”
