Newstead Brass are excited to announce the appointment of Matthew Ludford-King as their new conductor with immediate effect. The 2022 Unibrass Student Conductor of the year and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire graduate impressed the band through the audition process and made his concert debut with the band on Sunday June 25th at a ‘Mining Heritage Day’ at award winning local tourist attraction Papplewick Pumping Station.

Newstead Brass will also continue their relationship with Martin Heartfield after their fifth place finish in the Championship section of the Midland Area Championships in February. Matthew Ludford King will also continue his roles with Cleobury Mortimer as they prepare for the third section national finals and the Tredegar band for the British Open and National Finals.

A band spokesman commented “we’re very excited about the future combining Martin’s experience with Matthew’s ability and enthusiasm and our talented band and soloists and look forward to seeing this combination flourish.

”We received a strong field of applicants and are sorry we did not have time to invite them all for audition and our thanks and good wishes to those unsuccessful on this occasion.”
