Local Brass to Preview Preparations in Contest Countdown

Three leading local brass bands will feature music from different eras as they take to the stage this Sunday, February 17th, as they preview their preparations for the Midlands Regional Brass Band Championships taking place in March in a ‘Contest Countdown’ event at Kirkby in Ashfield’s Festival Hall starting at 7.15 pm.

Newstead Brass were the highest placed midland brass band taking 4th place from 13 entries in the championship section of the Bolsover Festival of Brass held on Sunday September 30th which attracted top bands, conductors and soloists from across England.

The recent passing of Sir Bruce Forsyth in August at the age of 89 has given us an excuse to raid the archives for when Newstead Brass were invited to join Bruce Forsyth, and guests Peter Alliss, Linda Lusardi and James Marcus, for an episode of ‘You Bet’ broadcast in April 1990.
