The award winning Newstead Brass band organisation marked the start of 208 with exciting plans to expand on their success with a name change for the ‘Newstead Youth Band’ and further commitments to developing young brass and percussion players for the future.

The Newstead Youth Band will now perform as ‘Newstead Abbey Brass’.  Since formation in 2001 this group has made two trips to the National Finals in Harrogate resulting in promotion to section 3 from January 2008.  The name Newstead ‘Abbey’ Brass was chosen by ballot across the organisation and more accurately reflects the group with a number of older players joining to help with the teaching of the younger players and provide stability as players move away to further and higher education. The band’s emphasis will remain on youth development.

In addition the Newstead Band is looking to expand its Newstead Training Band with instruments and tuition available for those wishing to learn to play or move on to the next stage.  Tuition is provided by members of Newstead Brass, the senior band in the Newstead Band organisation, ranked in the world’s top 50 brass bands.

Newstead Brass, Newstead Abbey Brass and Newstead Training Band will all be guided by the organisation’s Musical Director, Duncan Beckley, assisted by bandmaster Lynden Cooper, Paul Whyley (Conductor, Newstead Abbey Brass) and Phil White.

A warm welcome awaits players across the organisation, for more details please contact band manager Melanie Cooper on 07970 490773
