When Newstead Got a Brucie Bonus
Posted on Sep 08, 2017 by Mike Allcock
The recent passing of Sir Bruce Forsyth in August at the age of 89 has given us an excuse to raid the archives for when Newstead Brass were invited to join Bruce Forsyth, and guests Peter Alliss, Linda Lusardi and James Marcus, for an episode of ‘You Bet’ broadcast in April 1990.
About the show
For those too young too know, or too old to remember, ‘You Bet’ was a Saturday Evening London Weekend TV Game Show, in which a panel of celebrities would bet on the ability of members of the public to achieve unlikely challenges and stunts. If the celebrity bet correctly they won money for their nominated charity, bet wrong and they faced a forfeit…
About the challenge
Series 3, Episode 9 of the show was listed as Another edition of the challenge show featuring a tight squeeze for a brass band, a champagne flight with the RAF and two tyre fitters under pressure.
Peter Allis introduced his challenge which involved 28 members of a brass band, with their instruments, all getting into a 13 seater mini bus and playing the famous ‘Colonel Bogey’ March.
Did we do it? You Bet…..
RIP Sir Bruce Forsyth (1928-2017)
