Newstead Brass March on to Podium Finish

Newstead Brass just missed out on qualification for the National Brass Band Championship finals with a fine third place at the 2019 Midlands Regional Championships held at Bedworth Civic Hall on Saturday March 9th.

Playing first of 15 bands in Section 1, Newstead’s performance of the set work ‘Symphony of Marches’ by Gilbert Vinter held the lead until the 14th performance, by the Enderby Band, overtook them to win the contest and qualify Enderby for the national finals in Cheltenham in September alongside runners up Hucknall-Linby who were the last band to play.

Adjudicators Alan Morrison and John Winterflood  summarised Newstead’s performance, led by musical director Jim Davies as ‘This is a performance you can be proud of’ and ‘A good overall performance… that I enjoyed’.Newstead Brass March on to Podium Finish

Newstead Brass would like to thank the Kirkby’s St. Wilfrid’s and Hill Methodist churches for providing additional rehearsal facilities in our contest preparation.  A concert in aid of local ‘good causes’ is being planned at St Wilfrid’s in May as part of our thanks.
