Newstead set to start summer 18 Sounds of Brass

Newstead brass start their summer concert season this weekend in the traditional setting of the bandstand at Ripley’s Crossley Park on Sunday June 3rd from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
The park is accessible from School Lane, Ripley, or the Cromford Road car park (DE5 3FT). Admission is Free, but concert goers are advised to bring chairs or blankets to sit on to supplement that provided by the council.
Recently appointed musical director Jim Davies has selected a varied programme for the event, which opens Ripley Town Council’s programme of 2018 summer band concerts. Newstead will play music ranging from classic and recent film and stage themes to more pop and Eurovision hits.
A band spokesman commented, “Crossley Park is a lovely setting to watch bands and we’re delighted to be back as part of Ripley Town Council’s programme for this year. Let’s hope for a sunny afternoon and a large crowd.”
The band’s summer events programme continues with Picnic in the Park at Nottingham University on June 24 (noon) and the International Byron Festival concert at Newark Parish Church on 7 July (7.30 pm) before returning to Crossley Park for the Ripley Music Festival Brass Spectacular with fireworks on the evening of July 14.
