Cornets and Cakes as Brass Joins Cancer Fight

Newstead Brass are set to perform at Kirkby in Ashfield’s St Wilfrid’s Church on Sunday May 19th from 3 pm to 5 pm to raise funds for a local family impacted by a rare cancer.

“Cornets & Cakes, Tea and Trombones” will feature a varied selection of music, in the style of a Sunday afternoon bandstand concert, with cakes, tea and other refreshments available during the interval Proceeds will go to “Katie’s Cancer Treatment Fund” to help meet the costs of specialist treatment not yet available in the UK.

Tickets are £5 and can be reserved by calling 07305 090039 or purchased at the door.

A band spokesman commented, “We offered to give a concert at the church as a thank you for letting us use the building for extra rehearsals in preparation for recent contests. We’re delighted that they have been able to use it this imaginative way to help the local community. “
