Music inspired by Byron and by Italy
An unique and exciting concert is taking place on Saturday 7th July, as part of the 2018 Byron Festival, at 7.30pm in St Mary's Parish Church, Newark. Involving massed choirs of 160+ and Newstead Brass Band, this will be a celebration of Lord Byron's time in Italy exactly 200 years ago.
The youth choir of Sarzana (Southwell's Italian twin town) will be taking part – Sarzana is in the region in which Byron toured, and the choir will be making its second visit to Nottinghamshire at this time.
Also singing will be Bingham and District Choral Society, the Newstead Abbey Singers, and the Choir of St Mary's.
Music will include settings of Byron's poetry and Italian music.
The band and each of the choirs will perform separately, and then combine at the end of the concert for the world premiere of BYRON IN ITALY, a setting of five poems by Byron written in, or about, Italy, by Southwell composer Guy Turner
