Award winning Brass bands from Nottingham and Derbyshire are coming together for “Bold as Brass” in Ripley on on Saturday April 6th.
The Brassington, Middleton & Wirksworth (BM&W) Band will join with Newstead Brass at All Saints Church, in Ripley Town centre, for the concert which starts at 7.30 pm. Tickets are £7 from 0115 9680563, www.ticketsource.co.uk/newstead-brass-band or, subject to availability, at the door.
BM&W band won the “Village and Community Section” at the 2018 Denby Pottery Village entertainment contest under their conductor Sarah Fellowes. Sarah also plays euphonium with Newstead Brass helping them to third place in the recent Midlands Regional Brass band championships just missing out on qualification for the National Championship Finals. This followed Newstead success, under musical director Jim Davies, at the 2018 Bolsover Festival of Brass when they were the highest placed midlands band in a high quality national field of competitors.
The two bands will perform individually before joining for a massed band finale including Louis Prima’s rousing “Sing, Sing, Sing” and Irving Berlin’s foot-tapping “Putting on the Ritz”.
A band spokesman commented, “We’re looking forward to a wonderful evening of music making, I’d encourage people to get their tickets in advance to guarantee a seat.”
