Musical Director: Duncan A Beckley

The ‘Newstead Brass’ brand was launched in 2005 to emphasise the versatility of a group that can happily switch between swing, big band, jazz,  film and classical transcriptions as well as traditional brass band selections and the occasional ‘proms’ or ‘firework’ evenings!

The band was established around 1975 as the Hucknall-Linby Miners Welfare Band and relocated (following colliery closures) to Newstead in 1988.

A year later Duncan Beckley arrived as musical director and the band continues to gain many friends and admirers with its high standards and varied musical repertoire.

Contest prizes have been won across the country and promotion to the Championship section was achieved in 2001. Recent successes include winning the 2006 Midlands Regional Championships and the Senior Cup at the British Open Brass Band Championships. The band played in the National Championships at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October 2006.

The band have appeared on national and local television and radio and broadcast on BBC Radio 2’s popular ‘Listen to The Band’ series.
