Both Newstead Brass and Newstead Abbey Brass aim to provide opportunities for brass and percussion players from across the north-east midlands region to rehearse and perform together to improve their musical abilities and entertain the community.

The bands appear at venues throughout Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, the East Midlands and beyond and claim to be one of the most versatile groups around. As well as large and small concerts the bands are also available for weddings, community events, religious festivals and corporate entertainment.. ‘Newstead Brass’ and ‘Newstead Abbey Brass’ are performing groups within the ‘Newstead Welfare Band’ organisation. Together with a training group, over 80 amateur musicians are involved giving over 40 engagements a year, often in support of local and national charities. Both bands have completed successful trips to Ronchin, near Lille, in Northern France as part of the twinning agreement with Kirkby-in-Ashfield and a return visit was hosted in 2005.
